Lartington Cottage
The Smithy Holiday Cottage
Lartington, Barnard Castle - sleeping 3/4

The Smithy lies in Teesdale, one of the last unspoilt dales in the North of England, and is in the centre of the small conservation village of Lartington, which has remained largely unchanged for many years. It is slightly tucked away by some 20m or so from the road running through the village. The village itself consists in the main of individual stone built properties dating back to the 17th. Century. The two churches, public house and shop have long since ceased to have their original uses, and have been converted to residential properties.

Richard & Carmel, who live in the village, converted what was the original blacksmith's shop in the village around 1995 when it had the original anvil and bellows. Sadly, these were too large to be retained in the cottage, but have retained as many original features as possible, especially the oak beams throughout. The Smithy, which is detached and stone built, has been refurbished in 2010 and provides cosy comfortable accommodation for three people, and a fourth at a push. The garden is enclosed, provides off street parking for two cars, and has an original lamppost to provide a welcoming light in the darker evenings.

The cottage is surrounded by vast expanses of unspoilt hills and moorland, with the bustling market town of Barnard Castle just two miles away. The Smithy is ideal for walkers and lovers of the countryside and is dog friendly.

Although there is glorious countryside around, some may wish to venture further afield. If so, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is only eight miles away, and Kendal, on the edge of the Lake District, is an easy one hour's car drive away.

For the enjoyment of all our guests, we operate a no smoking policy.
